Community Outreach

Overview
The Morro Bay Police Department (MBPD) takes pride in coordinating numerous community events that raise funds for charity and promote the community partnership. To find out more about any of these programs, call the MBPD at 805-772-6225.

Special Olympics Torch Run
Members of the MBPD get pledge donations and run a 3-mile leg of the Special Olympics Torch Run to raise funds for Special Olympics. In addition, the MBPD hosts an annual Tip-a-Cop Dinner where officers and employees serve up meals and donate all the tips to Special Olympics.
Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
Each year, the Morro Bay Peace Officers Association, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Morro Bay, coordinate a community Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner attracts hundreds of local citizens and a great time is had by all.

Caroling Cops
Police employees and members of the community join Santa on the Trolley and drive all the streets in Morro Bay handing gifts to kids. This is the only such event in the County. In addition, our officers collect dozens of toys and bicycles and take them to needy families at Christmas time. Last year, over 100 toys were delivered to several families in Morro Bay.

D.A.R.E.
The MBPD conducts a D.A.R.E. Program at Del Mar Elementary School. An assigned D.A.R.E. officer teaches D.A.R.E. to the sixth grade classes (approximately 70 students). The MBPD believes in a strong emphasis in education as a means to reduce substance abuse.

Ride Along Program
The MBPD offers a Ride Along Program to residents that allows for the unique opportunity of riding with an officer on patrol. Residents can complete an application at the Police Station.

Friends of the Morro Bay Police Department

Several business owners and residents of Morro bay formed a non-profit support group to assist the MBPD in various ways. The Friends of Morro Bay Police Department conduct fundraising activities to help support the Department with equipment, meetings, awards, and other areas.
