Duties & Training

All Reserve Firefighters must commit to attending bi-monthly training drills. Regularly scheduled drills are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The Reserve Firefighter is also expected to continue personal growth through several full department drills held throughout the year, often scheduled in conjunction with other fire departments in San Luis Obispo County. Reserves respond to emergency incidents on an as-needed basis, as part of an engine company, to participate in firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, rescue calls and other public service incidents. During the first year as a Reserve Firefighter, successful completion of the following bulleted items must be documented in addition to attendance of bi-monthly training drills:

  • SLO County 80-hour Fire Academy or equivalent
  • MBFD Reserve Firefighter Orientation
  • Hazmat Operations
  • CPR
  • First Responder First Aid or equivalent
  • MBFD Badge Requirement Checklist
