We are now re-open to the public with new counter hours daily Monday through Thursdays from 8am - noon. You can also contact staff by phone, email, and regular mail for appointment requests outside of these hours. About the Department:


The Morro Bay Community Development Department is composed of three divisions whose purpose is to ensure development within the city complies with state, federal, and local laws and whose goal is to improve the built environment and quality of life for current and future residents, businesses and visitors. The three divisions of Community Development include Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement.

Planning Division


The Planning Division is responsible for long and short-range planning and implementation, development review and permitting, environmental review, economic development, processing of annexations, and grant applications and administration. 

Building Division


The Building Division ensures the health and welfare of the residents of Morro Bay through code enforcement and by regulating the construction, use, and occupancy of buildings and other alterations through the application of building codes.
 

Code Enforcement


The City of Morro Bay's Community Enhancement Program ensures nuisances and other code violations related to public health and safety are remedied efficiently and professionally.

General Plan/Local Coastal Program/Zoning Code Update

 
The City's General Plan/Local Coastal Plan was adopted by City Council on May 25, 2021 and the LCP was certified by the California Coastal Commission on August 12, 2021.
